One of the recent changes that were spotted is the tab feature on Notepad. While it had been rumored for months since December 2022, the update is finally here. Now, you can open a new tab on the app without having to open a new window.  Some people are happy with this addition, but several users have reported that the update also came with its flaws. As noted by user u/nton27, plenty of other features have gone missing. There were situations where you could not set word wrap off as default, names of opened files aren’t visible when switching between windows with the Alt + Tab shortcut, new Notepad windows appear in no-fixed place, etc. With that being said, some users are reportedly unhappy with this change and want to go back to the previous version. In this article, we’ll talk more about how to set word wrap as default, and how to use the old version of Notepad, if the latest version is still not up to your satisfaction.

How to set word wrap as the default

  1. With your Notepad app open, go to View ➜ Word wrap.

How to use the old version of Notepad

  1. Open File Explorer then go to C.
  2. Go to Windows.old.
  3. Go to WINDOWS.
  4. Scroll down then click on Notepad.
  5. Ignore the pop-up that says A new version of Notepad is available. Click X to dismiss. It’s a weird issue indeed, considering that word wrap is always turned on by default. Nevertheless, we’ve already explained to you a few workarounds you can try to use, should you encounter this problem again. What do you think about this bug? Let us know if you have any questions!
